No, but there are many benefits to gain by using refilled cartridge. Not only are you saving money, you are also helping the environment while still maintaining a high quality product.

Are recycled cartridges inferior to a new cartridge?

We use the best toner and premium inks available, specifically designed for each individual cartridge, and we replace all wearing parts in toner cartridges. • HP cartridges: "Made in Japan from the highest quality new and recycled materials."
  • Canon cartridges: "Canon has implemented a cartridge recycling program. This cartridge may contain reconditioned parts and re-molded materials."

How many times can my cartidge be refilled?

Both inkjet and laser cartridges can be refilled/re-manufactured several times. The number of times a cartridge can be refilled varies depending on the style of cartridge and how well you take care of your cartridge. We are able to test the majority of cartridges after they have been refilled/re-manufactured, hence our Money Back Guarantee.

How long does it take to refill my cartridge?

In many cases you won’t have to wait at all! Our stores carry an assortment of the more common cartridges already refilled or remanufactured, ready-to-go. Just trade in your empty and you’re on your way! If we don’t have a refilled cartridge ready, then we can fill yours in 10-15 minutes depending on the kind of shape it is in.

I heard using a remanufactured cartridge affects my printer's warranty. Is this true?

Not at all! There should be no difference in the print quality after the cartridge is refilled. Our 100% money back satisfaction guarantee is a sign of our confidence and removes any risk from you trying our services.

Can't I just refill my own cartridge?

Perhaps you have noticed that the "do-it-yourself refill kits" are becoming harder and harder to find. There is a reason for this!
The results are usually unsatisfactory. Cartridges filled using home refill kits seldom perform as well or as long as expected. Not many people try this approach a second time.

Besides, printed page for printed page, refilled cartridges from Cartridge World are probably even less expensive than those messy, awkward home refill projects.

When should I bring in my cartridge for refilling?

We encourage our customers to bring in their ink cartridges for refilling as soon as they run out of ink. Waiting too long can cause the print head to dry out and potentially render the cartridge unfit for reuse.

How should I store an ink cartridge?

The best place to keep ink cartridges, full or empty, is in the refrigerator inside a plastic bag. Desk drawers or book shelves can be too warm for cartridges, causing them to leak. The cool, dark and moist conditions in a refrigerator are ideal for ink cartridges.

How should I store a toner cartridge?

Until you’re ready to install the cartridge in your printer, you should leave it in the box and packaging we supply and store the box in a cool, dark place. Do not store your cartridge on its end, keep it flat.

Do I need to protect my ink cartridge when bringing it in for refilling?

Do keep the cartridge in a plastic bag to avoid getting ink on yourself. Do not place adhesive tape across the print head. The tape we and the manufacturers use to protect the head is a special, nearly non-adhesive tape. Regular adhesive tape may damage the print head rendering it unfit for reuse.

What's the difference between using a refill kit and what you do?

Refill kits use a generic and watery ink that’s not specific to any particular printer model. We use quality inks matched as closely as possible to the original formulation used by the manufacturer. We also have the means to test and guarantee the cartridge will work as well as the original. If you’re not satisfied with the output quality of your refilled cartridge, we’ll replace the cartridge or refund your money.

What's the best way to dispose of ink and toner cartridges?

One of three ways. Recycle your empty cartridges with us even if you don’t want them refilled. You can simply donate them so we can keep them out of the landfill. There may also be a recycling center near you that accepts cartridges, crushes them and reuses the components to make more cartridges. Or you can (but shouldn’t) dispose of them as hazardous waste (like motor oil and batteries) at your local landfill.

What's the difference between high-yield & low-yield cartridges?

High-yield cartridges usually contain as much as twice the ink or toner of a low-yield cartridge. Starter cartridges, those you receive when you buy a new printer, often contain less ink or toner than even a low-yield cartridge. Some printers will only accept either a high-yield or low-yield cartridge. Others will accept both. The documentation that came with your printer or the manufacturer’s website should be able to tell you exactly which cartridges can be used with your printer. If high-yield cartridges are an option, and you do a lot of printing, high-yield cartridges will last you longer and require fewer trips to Cartridge World.

How can you keep your prices so low?

Primarily by recycling cartridges. To be sure a cartridge is reusable, we clean and test all cartridges we receive before refilling/ remanufacturing them. By not having to purchase the cores from the manufacturer, we can reduce costs and pass those savings along to you.

What's the difference between a remanufactured cartridge and a refilled cartridge?

There is a big difference between a refilled cartridge and one that has been remanufactured. A refilled cartridge has been drilled out and new toner placed inside. Refilled cartridges are usually good for 1 - 2 times after the initial use. Since the drum and other parts are not being replaced this can cause many problems. Unfortunately, this has given the remanufacturing industry a bad reputation.
A remanufactured cartridge is opened to replace the consumable items such as toner, gears, drum blades and any other parts that need replacing. Once the cartridge has been remanufactured, it is tested to ensure a quality print is achieved.

Most of the large manufacturers such as Canon, Hewlett Packard (HP) and Lexmark have recycling programs that allow them to re-use parts. In most cases the cartridge you are buying ‘new’ is in fact a remanufactured cartridge. Many of HP’s cartridges contain new and recycled parts.
